iPad2
Well, I have just fixed the worst smashed iPad2 so far. Problem is, when they get this badly smashed, it can break the 3G and wi-fi aerials as well since Apple has stuck them to the screen. Anyway, I successfully repaired it and the customer is very happy. Merry Xmas to everybody I have seen in the last year. Spencer

iPhone4s and iPad2
Well, our own iPhone4s lovelies have been playing us up. My wife's kept saying 'Invalid SIM' and mine kept on turning off. The only way forward seemed to be to restore them both which seems to have worked. It's annoying really and I think Apple will have a new IOS out soon to fix other problems such as the poor battery life.
With my business, I am seeing less iPhone 3G now with iPhone 3GS and iPhone4 dominating my time. I am also seeing lots more iTouch 4G and iPad 1 and 2 now which is great to have the variety. As usual, thanks to all for your custom.

iPhone4S in Pieces
Yes, I have taken my new iPhone4S apart. Quite happy that Apple haven't changed it too much, but a few bits and pieces in different places such as the linear vibrate motor bottom left and a lot of the connectors run horizontal as opposed to vertical. All in all, happy I can deal with it.

I was right!!! iPhone4S announced.
As I sit here looking at a live blog from Apple, they have just announced the iPhone4S and not a 5. No surprise there at all. They wouldn't release two phones (4S and 5) at once. At least my predictions were correct. Still, I will buy one to get my hands on a faster processor. Best thing is, the 4S is so similar to a 4, I won't have to learn an entirely new phone.

iPhone5 or iPhone4S
That is the question. The more I think about it and the more I see from parts suppliers, I think we will see an iPhone4S in October, not a true iPhone5. It is all conjecture but it makes sense. It's good for me because a 4S will be very similar to a 4 so not much new to learn.
See parts on lunacommerce - they were detailing iPhone5 but now it has changed to iPhone4S so do they know something....?

Busy Busy Busy
It's been really busy during the last month. I am seeing no 2G phones now, but still plenty of 3G, 3GS and lots of iPhone4s which are mainly screen breaks, but I am seeing other issues now as the iPhone4 gets older e.g. button and dock issues.
I am blogging this on my MacBook Air. If you are considering getting one, then go for it!!! It is simply the best laptop I have ever had. Features I love are the 'light up' keyboard, Solid State Drive and the lightness of it. It also allows me to talk to iPhones natively, instead of via a PC which wasn't made for Apple devices. I can really see Apple taking over a lot of IT in the future.
I am really looking forward to the release of iPhone5 which is due October. Hope it is a nice design and hope it isn't too hard to work on!

iPad2 and News
My iPad2 has arrived. It is a vast improvement on the original iPad. Browsing is much faster and the camera, although quite low resolution, is useful. It is also thinner and lighter and the smart cover which turns the iPad on when you open it, is very clever indeed. Roll on iPad3! Also, iPhone5 looks like it might be out in this country in about October. Can't wait to see and and then take it apart.
Remember, I can fix your iPad, iPad2 and iPod Touch 4th Generation. Apple are sticking a lot of their products together now, but this won't defeat me. I am also continuing to repair all the iPhone range, although I hardly see and iPhone 2G anymore and 3G getting a bit thinner now.

White iPhone4 Conversion
The white iPhone4 is out now. People can now see how good it looks in the flesh. I can do a white iPhone4 conversion (front, back and home button) for £120. If you wish the headphone jack and dock connector to be made white too, that is another £30.

Dock Connector Faults
Business has been good in the last couple of months. One of the most popular fixes is the dock connector so I thought I would show you what can happen to them.
The picture above shows two pins of the connector badly bent from placing the iPhone into a dock. The customer's PC also complained of USB issues which isn't surprising. The two pins which have been bent, are the ground connections for the iPhone. No ground = no power and no charging which renders the iPhone pretty much useless. It's only £30 to fix so not a bank breaker. Hope this has been of interest. Spencer.

New - Anti-dust Rubber Covers
I have just purchased these anti-dust covers for the dock connector and headphone jack. The idea is that these will help prevent dust, pocket fluff and moisture from entering these areas. I use them and they definitely help. I will be giving away a set of these free to anybody who has a repair and asks for them, whilst stocks last. Looking forward to seeing you!

Business busy
The last couple of months have been busy. I have seen an increase in iPhone4 repairs and I have also been repairing laptops for people and GHD hair straighteners plus my own oven which I have had to repair before. It's been alot of fun and I have helped alot of people. I have been asked to repair an HTC Desire which will be a bit of a change in direction, but I will soon learn the ins and outs of that phone - they seem quite complicated buy I love a challenge!

My record 'whilst you wait' times
Business has been very brisk this month which was a bit of a nice surprise after Xmas. Lots of recommendations keep the work coming, so I thank you all - it is very much appreciated. I have a real feel for my 'whilst you wait' times now. I can do 3G/3GS digitisers or LCDs in 10 minutes (screen pre-prepared), iPhone4 screens in 20 minutes and 3G/3GS re-casing in 30 minutes (case pre-prepared). These are typical times, but can be extended if the phones have other faults. Thank you all for your continued custom.

Happy New Year!!!!!
It has been a busy Xmas with many iPod Touch, iPhone 3G/3GS and a few broken iPhone4 Xmas presents. Shown above is my first iPod Nano 6th generation fix. The screen was broken due to the iPod being put in a pocket with a bunch of keys. These aren't too hard to fix but they are glued together which makes it a bit more difficult than usual. I probably won't see too many of these, but it is great to have the experience in fixing one for the time being.
