Vodka Red Bull and the iPhone

Take one Vodka Red Bull, one iPhone and then nodding off to sleep and here's what you get. Symptoms of this damage are occasional, random reboots which are very annoying. The Vodka Red Bull had got into the phone right where the battery contacts are and the power supply/fuse circuit is located. As you can see, it looked very badly damaged but with a bit of careful cleaning all seems ok now. Thanks to my friend Paddy for giving me this one to fix.

Lots of Connector 3 Damage

I seem to have seen lots of iPhones with Connector 3 damage in the last couple of weeks. Normally, it's when customers have attempted a bit of DIY via You Tube. Anyway, here is a classic example of a damaged Connector 3 and the associated damaged Proximity Ribbon. It's all fixable with a bit of time and patience.

Lots of iPhones were broken this year

I just had a quick clear out of some of the broken parts I have replaced this year. It is amazing since this is a fraction of the total. Rest assured, all the batteries are going for recycling.

I see a pattern emerging

I have just had another water damaged iPhone4 to repair. It seems that these phones are quite resilient when it comes to surviving water damage since this was once again, a toilet drop phone. Main water damage is on the connector section of the board, the dock, the home button and the battery connector. This is good news for all iPhone4 owners. Sure I will get some more water damaged phones coming my way soon.

White iPhone4 - It Lives!!!!!!

The white iPhone4 is now complete. I like it since it makes the whole phone look so different. Suppose it could do with a white front camera surround but it isn't bad. I still need to test it since there can be problems with the proximity sensor with the white front, since the window for the infra-red light to shine through is different. Anyway, I like it and I hope you do too.

White iPhone4 - We have the technology to build it!!!

I have just ordered the parts to build a white iPhone4 which isn't currently available from Apple. I have a white digitiser as shown but I haven't yet got the white home button, headphone socket, dock connector and back. I have just ordered these from my supplier and hope to have them later next week. If there is any demand for this, I can supply and fit the parts for about £200, maybe less if I can have your old black parts and they are in good condition.

Other news for this busy week, I have just repaired an iPhone4 which was badly water damaged. It needed circuit board cleaning work under the microscope, plus a complete disassembly and dry out and a new front screen. The customer was very happy with the result since it saved him alot of money. It goes to show that, if you water damage a phone and you get it to me within a day, I might be able to salvage it.

iPhone 4 Repairs Increasing

It has been a bit of an iPhone 4 week. I am getting more requests to repair them now so I will need to buy some more spares. iPhone 2G repairs have now completely dried up with the core repairs in the iPhone 3G and 3GS range. It's amazing how things change so quickly. Other areas where repairs are increasing are iPod Touch 2G and 3Gs. I am still waiting for my first iPad repair but sure that isn't far away and I have the tools.

I get plenty of Blackberry repairs and they seem to come in batches. A weak point seems to be with the keypads - the keys stop functioning after a time and I usually find oxide build up on the membrane switches or water damage. Since a keyboard is so critical, customers are very happy when I fix them.

Connector 4 Fix

I have another fix to test my skill where my microscope will once again help me. You can see from the photo that Connector 4 has been damaged. This will require complete replacement since the home button and USB won't work in its current state. I am confident of a fix..........and a couple of hours later, hey presto the phone now has a working USB and Home button plus all the other functions appear to work. I am very happy for the customer and he is too!!!

A Weekly Mixed Bag of Fixes

iPhone4 Drop Damage

This last week has been a mixed bag of fixes. I did an iPhone4 with a cracked screen. This was difficult since it had landed on the frame which had bent it. Really, it needed a new chassis but the customer wasn't too bothered so I did some careful bending to make it as good as possible. I also had an iPhone 3G which needed recasing, rescreening and the SIM tray was also damaged. I therefore had to solder a new SIM tray in which is always a bit of a challenge.

Finally, apart from the usual iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch smashed screens, I had a Nokia 8800 which was covered in WD40. This was very hard to mop up so I did my best to get it back to pristine condition. All it needs now is a new screen since you can see a pool of WD40 in the backlight. It took quite a time to get rid of that WD40 smell, I can tell you!!!!!!!

Fixing iPod Touch 2G and Other Gadgets

Here is an iPod touch I just rescreened. Not the easiest job but sure the customer will be happy. I have also been asked to replace the dock connnector on an iPod Touch. These were not made to be replaced like the iPhone so it will require a very careful and lengthy soldering job which comes with some risks. Still, if you dock connector is damaged then the iPod is pretty much a write off so nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This week has also seen screen repairs on iPhones plus an LG Shine which is a slide phone. It is quite an involved repair requiring careful disassembly, but I achieved it. One happy customer!!!!!

First Blog

Hello from corePhone. This is my first site blog and I intend to regularly blog with news, views and information on my latest repairs. This week, I have repaired the usual iPhone smashed digitiser screens plus a Tom Tom Sat Nav where the USB connector was broken and a Nokia 6700 Classic LCD screen. I also made a virtually new Nintendo DS from spares from one milk damaged and one which had a faulty fuse and broken card slot. Anything is possible really with my microscope and micro soldering iron. I will continue to post with my latest repairs and other information. Enjoy! Spencer.
